I've been drawing & scribbling since I could hold a pencil, starting by copying pictures of Spiderman, Hulk, Batman etc, then progressing onto creating my own superheroes, monsters & strange worlds. At the age of 13 (1983) I progressed into the Graffiti/Hip Hop scene &. I had finally found a stage that my style of art could really go forward & develop. I started out on walls & trains but now work strictly on canvas or legal walls, firstly because I can't run away as fast these days & secondly the pays better.
Later I wanted to use the skills picked up from graffiti & create smaller works, I always liked the way you could overlay colours almost instantly with spray paint & create fades & other cool effects. I found the ideal solution with airbrushing. This gave me the same control & style of working in graffiti but allowed me to work to almost any scale on any surface, from phone covers, bike helmets, bikes & skateboards to huge backdrops, cars & murals.
On leaving school having gained an 'O' & 'A' level in Art & Design & 'O' levels in Design technology, Maths & Physics. I then went on to do a 4 year apprenticeship in Architectural metalwork (B-TEC national diploma), this included mechanical engineering, sheet metalwork, CAD, technical drawing, welding & fabrication. I worked for myself for many years in the metalwork trade but I never really stopped drawing.
In May 1999 I was introduced to a new media, the computer. Since then I've been teaching myself everything, from how to switch the computer on, to learning software such as Bryce, Max, XSI, ZBrush, Silo, Vue Pro, Photoshop, Modo, Maxwell & not forgetting web design in Dreamweaver. I would say 80% of my finished work is now produced using the computer. I still produce loads of sketches & still love to use my spraycans for canvas work whenever I get the chance, but only occasionally dust off my airbrush & welder these days
My influences are H R Giger, Dali, Escher, Vaughn Bode, Marvel comics, Julie Bell, Boris Vallejo, Seen, T-Kid, Dondi, Meats Meier, Creature Core, Manga/Anime, Alfred Hitchcock, George A Romero, David Cronenberg, Clive Barker, John Carpenter, all Horror / Sci-fi / Fantasy movies old/new & not forgetting my Dad (R.I.P)...
